Un pequeño sitio Arqueológico, de lo que se presume pudo ser una ciudad sumamente importante en cuanto al comercio de la sal. Significa "Cocodrilo Celestial" ó "Lugar donde se realizan truques", según la página oficial del gobierno del Estado.
Se puede observar una capilla contruida sobre los simientos Mayas, sede donde cada año se rinde culto a la virgen de Xcambó, que según el testimonio de las personas que viven cerca , se apareció en este lugar hace ya varias décadas, debido a esto tiene la etiqueta "Iglesias y Capillas de Yucatán" en este blog. De igual forma hay una cruz en la parte alta de uno de los edificios, donde los turistas dejan sus "ofrendas" que consisten principalmente en pulseras, ligas para el cabello entre otros objetos que le han dado una particular vista a este símbolo religioso.
Este lugar , con el fresquísimo aire marino que lo caracteriza, es una excelente opción al ir de paseo por esta zona, se puede complementar con una visita al mirador de Uaymitun, El corchito en Progreso, o con San Crisanto y Telchac.
En uno de los edificios existen , protegidos por unas pequeñas palapas, vestigios de la decoración que tenian, y que haciendo volar un poco la imaginación e imaginandola completamente recubierta de estos detalles, se imagina uno la belleza que llegó a tener este lugar.
¿Cómo llego a Xcambó?
Principalmente debe ser por Vehiculo particular o taxi , no tengo conocimiento de alguna linea de autobuses o colectivos que entre a este sitio de forma programada.
La primera opción es por costa, saliendo de Mérida rumbo a Progreso y dirigirse Chicxulub Puerto, 24 km mas adelante llegará al entronque de "Xtampú", ahí está señalizado el camino hacia Xcambó, procure no ir demasiado veloz y no hacer demasiado ruido ya que pasará por zonas donde hay Flamingos. Si piensa detenerse a observar algo en el camino por favor use sus luces intermitentes.
Otra opción es dirigirse por la carretera a Motul, y pasar el Municipio de Baca con destino a Dzemul, y continuar ( no es necesario entrar a Dzemul ya que cuenta con desvio).
